Christmas Tip #7 - Buy Charity Gifts & Sponsor A Child

With all the natural distasters this year you may want to be ulturistic and give a charity gift this Christmas?

They generally take the form of sponsoring a child say from ActionAid or buying gifts where there profits go to help the charity which is the case with World Vision.

There are so many to choose from so here's our selection of the most relevent (to me) charity gifts:

Action Aid is a partnership of people who's aim is fight against poverty, to allow people to exercise their right to a life of dignity and to combat the injustice and inequity that cause it. You can sponsor a child for just 50p a day.

Practical Presents have gifts from under £30 to over £500 which go towards helping good causes.

You can buy Alpaca Food for £27 which helps feed the Alpaca when the ground freezes over. You can also buy a hardy donkey for a family in Sudan so they can carry more water. You can also buy a heard of goats for an improverished family in Southern Africa.

Practical Presents also offer Clean toilets for the slums outside Nairobi in Kenya to help combat disseases such as typhoid, dysentery and cholera. They also do flood reistant homes in Bangladesh for £500 or if you don't have that much money, you can buy a fuel efficient stove for the people of Darfur for just £10. Present Aid from Christian Aid is one charity that you should be looking at if you wanted to buy a charity Christmas gift for your mum, dad, a pet lover, sports fantatic, an eco-warrior or hard worker. They've got over 30 gifts to choose from, ranging from just £5 to over £500 including a basketball to give under-privilleged kids something to do, computer training for £11 to help educate those in need, a midwifery kit to help save mothers' lives, a school uniform for just £20. You can even buy a can of worms for £15 which could help break down waste matter to be used as fertiliser.

The one I prefer, however, is the flood emergency kit - which is very apt at the moment. You can donate this for just £87 - very worthwhile!

Action Medical Research has been working towards making medical breakthroughs for over 50 years. They've helped research the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy and the hip replacement operation. You can help by doing sponsored events such as treking Machu Picchu, going up Kilimanaro, doing the Flora London Marathon etc.

Also considercharity gifts from The British Heart Foundation.
